Kunstwerkkunst (Engl. ‘artworkart’), or KWK, is a new concept that consists of a DIY gallery/ co-working space/workshop and a bar. Both spaces can be up and running simultaneous (but not always).
KWK is looking to offer artists an alternative to exclusive high-profile galleries. Additionally also giving the artists the opportunity to connect to an audience, and vice-versa.
Conveniently, KWK sits next to bar chopinchopin on the animated Beverhoutplein in Ghent. This market square, next to Sint-Jacobs, is most known for the flea market which normally takes place every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
During the day, from Monday to Wednesday, KWK will be open as a basic coworking space/workshop. Whereas at night, it may function as a gallery/art event space.
From Thursday to Sunday, the chopinchopin bar will be open. Meanwhile, the KWK functions as a gallery and workshop during the day and becomes part of the bar at night.
With this temporary place within the visual art scene in Ghent, we want to give artists and creative minds the opportunity to express themselves freely.
In the meanwhile, they can delve further into the process of putting together expositions or other ways of showing their work.
KWK stands for ‘artworkart’, the interaction between making, showing and be seen is our number one goal.
At the same time, we want to make art available and accessible to everyone. We believe art should exist within the daily life.
KWK will be open its door on the 1st of July until the 31st of October, 2020. Artists can use the space for min. one week, up to one month max. During that time, we will join you in the working space from Monday to Wednesday. And from Thursday to Sunday, we will be running the bar. The leftover time can be used to utilize the space for any other project.
what to expect
A white room (30 m²: 7,5x4m) with fairly high black ceilings with standard lighting and a sink. There are two big windows that overlook the beautiful market square. The space can be organized by the artist according to their own vision and work. We will organize a vernissage and offer further exposure through our social media channels. The cost for our support is 300 euro/2 weeks or 500 euro/month and can be divided by multiple artists. In your benefit, we do not take commission on the sold works, as you will be your own gallerist. Note that a payment-in-kind might also be considered.
how to register
Send your portfolio to firstname.lastname@example.org, pitch your expo-idea, and state your preferred period to rent the space. Elaborate on the how you think your idea could be a perfect fit for this exceptional multifaceted concept (one page). If you are interested, it is of course possible to visit the place beforehand. Come and have a sneaky look through the windows at the Beverhoutplein nr. 6, and maybe we’re there. Otherwise send us an e-mail upfront.
